The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is once again celebrating the most innovative and environmental initiatives in Canadian cities and communities of all sizes, as this webinar marks the beginning of FCM's 2024 Sustainable Communities Awards (SCAs) call for applications.
The SCAs serve to honor projects that demonstrate environmental responsibility and excellence, while taking an integrated approach that also yields economic and social benefits. Canadian municipalities strive to meet these standards within their projects and programs to ensure a sustainable future—and this year’s longer list of award categories will give more projects the chance to be nationally recognized.
Join the online event to learn more about the 2024 SCA categories and criteria, the application process and the benefits to winning an SCA. In addition, two past SCA winners will showcase their winning projects—including a green transportation project in Kingston, Ontario, and major success in natural asset management in Parkland County, Alberta. They will also explain how the SCA benefited their community and career. As always, we will ensure time at the end of the webinar to answer your questions.
What you will learn:
- How winning a 2024 SCA will not only benefit your community and career, but other communities as well who might be able to replicate your project/program.
- What the new 2024 SCA categories include.
- How to navigate the 2024 SCA application process.
- The experiences of two former SCA winners, both with their sustainability programs/projects and their experiences after winning an SCA.
Webinar benefits:
- Discover whether a project/program in your municipality is eligible for a 2024 SCA.
- Become comfortable with the SCA application process, which will allow you to complete an application faster and with ease.
- Become inspired by past winners to replicate the initiative in your municipality and/or use their tactics in your SCA application.
- Ask your questions directly to SCA winners and GMF employees.
Speakers:
- Dan Hendry, Co-founder and project director, Get on the Bus Movement, Small Change Fund, Kingston, Ontario (SCA 2018 winner)
- Krista Quesnel, Director, Agriculture and Environment Services, Parkland County, Alberta (SCA 2022 winner)
- Yvonne Ritchie, Advisor, Capacity Development, Green Municipal Fund, Federation of Canadian Municipalities
