Community buildings, such as swimming pools and indoor ice rinks, libraries and community centres, are vital infrastructure for communities. But as most of these buildings are aging, they generate significant GHG emissions and high energy and operating costs.

The long-term impact of these buildings on municipal budgets is real, especially for small municipalities that may not have the resources to plan and implement energy upgrades.

This webinar is designed for small municipalities looking for guidance on how to get started with net-zero retrofits and navigate funding options from the Green Municipal Fund’s Community Buildings Retrofit initiative.

You’ll learn:

  • The real cost of older buildings: high energy costs, environmental impact and long-term impact on municipal budgets.
  • The economic benefits of sustainable energy upgrades, such as an energy savings of up to 30% or more depending on the renovations.
  • Strategies to maximize savings, starting with the initial diagnosis, followed by specific steps that will generate savings, and follow-up actions.
  • The most important lessons learned and the financial results of a building retrofit project.

If renewable energy solutions, high efficiency mechanical systems, ventilation, heating, LED and natural lighting and thermal insulation are topics that interest you, this webinar is for you.

There will be a question-and-answer period at the end.

The webinar is presented by Bâtiment durable Québec and will be conducted in French.

Speakers:

  • Sergio Acevedo, Architect, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP,
  • Jonathan De Luca, Project Officer, Capacity Building, Green Municipal Fund

The Community Buildings Retrofit initiative is delivered through the FCM's Green Municipal Fund and funded by the Government of Canada.
