Workshop: Creating climate-resilient urban forests in Atlantic Canada

Communities across Atlantic Canada are seeing the impacts of climate change on their urban forests. From a greater frequency of severe storms and wildfires to the spread of pests and disease, community canopies are increasingly under threat, while municipal budgets and local capacities to respond are stretched thin.  

Join us for Creating climate-resilient urban forests in Atlantic Canada, a day-long in-person workshop in Moncton, NB, on November 12, 2026. This event provides space for municipal staff and community partners to hear from experts on practical solutions and actionable steps to make urban forests more resilient to extreme climate events.  

By attending this workshop, you will:

• Understand wildfire hazard assessments, including exposure, probability and risk.  
• Learn to apply wildfire hazard assessments directly to your urban forestry practices.  
• Discover practical strategies to improve tree stock selection and diversify your local canopies.  
• Learn to navigate common challenges to establishing climate-resilient urban forestry practices.

Who should attend?

• Municipal staff in the Atlantic region working in urban forestry and/or climate adaptation projects, including those who have received funding* through Growing Canada’s Community Canopies (GCCC) initiative.  
• Non-profit organizations, Indigenous community members, or other projects partners that support urban forestry initiatives in Atlantic Canada.

Travel: Participants who have received Tree planting or Urban forestry plans and studies funding through GMF’s Growing Canada's Community Canopies initiative may be eligible to receive reimbursement for travel costs. Please contact your Project Officer for more information.
