Choose a testing scenario

If you’d prefer a structured starting point, use the scenario that matches your role.

You don’t need to use one of these scenarios. If you have a real communication challenge you’re facing right now, bring that instead—it will produce richer feedback for us and more useful output for you.

Scenario for staff

You are a communications coordinator—or the person who handles communications—for a small or rural municipality. Your council has just approved a new stormwater infrastructure project and you’ve been asked to prepare three key messages for a public information session next month.

Use the toolkit to develop those messages. Start wherever makes sense to you.

As you work, notice:

  • Could you find the right tools for this task?
  • Were the instructions clear enough to follow without a communications background?
  • Did the messages you ended up with feel usable—something you could actually say at a public meeting?
  • Was there anything missing that would have helped?
Scenario for elected officials

You are a mayor or councillor in a small or rural municipality. A local journalist has just called and asked for a comment on what your municipality is doing about climate change.

Use the toolkit to get ready for that call. Start wherever makes sense to you.

As you work, notice:

  • Could you find what you needed quickly?
  • Did the toolkit help you develop language you felt confident using?
  • Was anything confusing or hard to follow under time pressure?
  • Was there anything missing that would have helped?

Thank you for participating in the pilot testing of the Municipal Climate Communications Toolkit. Your feedback will help us improve the toolkit before its official launch. Please share your honest thoughts—there are no right or wrong answers.

Optional
Q7 Was there anything you were looking for that you couldn’t find?
Q8 Did you encounter anything that was unclear, confusing, or hard to follow?
Include the name of the tool or page and the specific section if you can.
We’re looking for gaps in content, data sources, or regional coverage—not structural or design changes. See the framing document for guidance on the kinds of feedback that are most useful.
